Facebook Album Photos On Your Website

An Easy Way for Clients to Update Image Galleries

In general, clients are quite happy to use whichever CMS I apply to their website, and most accept that there is a bit of a learning curve with any new bit of software. But processing, optimising and uploading images has always been a bugbear.
Firstly, clients want to take images on their iPads, mobile phones etc. The resulting images are too large to upload directly to a website (or more importantly, too large to download). They are probably the wrong dimensions, and need to be cropped, and then optimised for the web.

And secondly, not all clients are comfortable with decent photo editing software, never mind pixel ratios and dpi.

Either way, it's just another step in the process which complicates matters.

But there is a way to build this functionality into a website, a way which makes use of Facebook's photo albums.

Combine the Galleria javascript image gallery framework with the elegantly simple Galleria Facebook plug-in and hey presto!

Familiar to most people and widely accessible to most devices, Facebook's albums mean all of the image processing is taking out of the equation. Clients upload their photos to their Facebook page as they would normally, and a straightforward piece of Javascript is inserted into the appropriate web page which calls the images from a specified Facebook Album and embeds them in a tidy little slideshow on your website.

Big thanks to everyone at Galleria and to Alex Schmelkin for developing the plug-in. Great work and a big addition to a content management arsenal.

For an example take a look at this page from the Ballindalloch Castle website http://www.ballindallochcastle.co.uk/index.php/the-estate/aberdeen-angus
